Long stout farinose stems bear whorls of nodding yellow flowers, sometimes orange to red in cultivation. Could only be mistaken for P. sikkimensis which has narrower leaf-blades with bases decurrent into the petiole . Tsangpo basin, Tsari to Pachakshiri, mostly gravel beds and water meadows in flood plains, at about 4000m. Invasive in damp soils and only suitable for very large and wild gardens, lakesides etc. Should be scrupulously deadheaded in smaller gardens or will usurp other bog primulas. Red and orange forms have arisen after hybridisation with P. alpicola v. violacea and possibly other species.
