Botanical Description

A member of section Cortusoides. Vigorously rhizomatous and occasionally very invasive in the garden. Leaves rounded to kidney-shaped, 5-10cm across, bullate. hairy, thick and rather olive-green, with about 4 shallow dentate lobes on each margin, the leaf stalks with long, white hairs. Flowers rose-purple, or white, 2-3cm across, in umbels of two to eight on stems 10-15cm high. Shikoku, Kanto and south-central Honshu, very rare in shaded sites in the alpine zone.
