MacBook Air box: Way smaller than other Apple boxes

Remember when Steve Jobs said that the MacBook Air's packaging was …

At the Macworld 2008 keynote, Steve Jobs made a big hullabaloo about how the MacBook Air was more environmentally friendly than past Apple laptops. This included the packaging, which he said was reduced by 40 percent and recyclable. A 40 percent reduction doesn't seem like much in your head, but when the box came, we realized otherwise.

(Yes, this post is about a box. If you're not into that level of fanaticism, then you only have yourself to blame if you continue reading.)

So, in the interest of giving you guys something to get excited over before our review goes live, here are a few box comparisons. We have a box from a 15" MacBook Pro, a MacBook, and the Air.  Predictably, the MacBook Pro has the largest box, followed by the MacBook (the white box), followed by the Air.

Yep, Steve was right. That box sure is small (it does, however, have no handle on the top like the others, though). Greenpeace should be pleased... we think.

Stay tuned for the Ars review within the next few days!
