Really Bad Valuable Art: Very Bad Art Indeed

Very Bad Man – abstract expressionism art

What makes some bad art valuable?

But more important, what makes some really, really bad art valuable?

It might surprise you, but the real answer is, we really just do not know why.

The simple answer would be that if certain styles of art by certain artists gain sympathy, then the art becomes valuable, at least to those sympathetic enough to buy it.

My own art is bad. Not just bad, but i mean really, really, really bad.

If you tried to burn my art on a big bomb fire, it wouldn’t burn, it’s just so damp and dreary.

And yet, if you look at the visitor numbers to this website, you would think i was the reincarnation of Vincent van Gogh.

Alas, i have checked my family tree in the hope that there was a tiny connection to Van Gogh, but i was left disappointed and i only found connections to Van Drivers and Decorative Wood Veneer Installers, but no Van Gogh.

But, people do seem to like my paintings. So unless they want me to drive a van instead and stop painting, i will just carry on painting.

But i have to be honest, some of it is really quite bad.

The beauty of it is, is in the fact that thank God there is only one of each of them, my paintings are unique.

This is where we come to the real point of good or bad art. There are no other pieces of that particular piece in the whole world. There is only one!

Good or bad, art is absolutely unique.

The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) is a privately owned museum whose stated aim is “to celebrate the labor of artists whose work would be displayed and appreciated in no other forum”.

It was originally in Dedham with current branches in SomervilleBrookline, and South Weymouth in Massachusetts.

Very Bad Man

Its permanent collection includes over 700 pieces of “art too bad to be ignored”, 25 to 35 of which are on public display at any one time.

It is important to foster art appreciation and analysis, as it helps us value the art in how it appeals to us and what it means to each person, even with my own very, very bad art.

It delves into the history and the story behind the art, as well as a look into the lives of the artists.

It enables one to critically analyze a work, along lines of design, mastery and techniques.

Most importantly, however, art appreciation stimulates through and analysis, provokes an individual to look past what meets the eye and open our mind to the views of others.

For many people, art is meant to express something that we ourselves feel unable to express or convey.

Through its visual medium it evokes feelings of joy, sadness, anger and pain.

That is why art appreciation is so important in bringing that one final element to complete the work, and that is our interpretation. Our perspective brings the artwork to life as it changes for every person around it.

Art is meant to stimulate thought and conversation between its viewers. By reflecting on a piece of art, we delve into our own experiences and nostalgia, thus a piece of art means something different to every person that comes across it.

Art appreciation helps open up the mindset of the people, by listening to different perspectives and views as well as interpretations of the art, it encourages thoughtful conversation and the understanding that there is more than one approach to everything.

Art appreciation is extremely relevant for multiple reasons. It is a good way to understand the history behind the work, and the period from which the piece originated. Artists often reflect the problems that they face, and the issues of the society in their work.

Very Bad Art

By analyzing and putting ourselves in the mind of the artist, we can better study how differently society functioned then, compared to now. We can empathize and relate to the problems they faced on a personal level.

Art is dynamic, with new trends and styles emerging at a fast pace. However, the final attempt of the artist is that it speaks to the viewer on a personal level and can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Art opens up the stream of subconscious and intends to personally touch every person that comes across it.

The term art encompasses a large variety of works, from paintings to sculptures, architecture to design, and in modern times, digital art. Everyone can appreciate and marvel at art, and being subjective in nature, different art forms appeal to different people.

Art appreciation, however, refers to the exploration and analysis of the art forms that we are exposed to. It can be highly subjective, depending on the individuals personal tastes and preferences, or can be done on the basis of several grounds such as elements of design and mastery displayed in the piece.

Art appreciation also involves a deeper look into the setting and historical implication and background of the piece, a study of its origins.

  1. You work with Banksy don’t you?
You do the bad stuff and he does the good stuff. We saw your work in Hackney.
It’s exactly the same style as this.
You are fantasic in the way you do this.

  2. You’re good because you’re ridiculous, and you don’t seem to care.
    That’s desirable and admirable.
Your art will be famous bad art, and it will make you very rich.

  3. Are you being serious here?
This is so ridiculous it beggars belief.
You have got to be joking surely?
If you are actually serious with this total parody of art and to be honest, this vomit inducing spectacle that you call art, then you actually do deserve a place in the Tate for being so bloody off your head.
This is preposterous and outrageous. If i see that painting at an exhibition in years to come i will most likely believe it to be true. It’s artists like you that actually do go on to become famous. But for the life of me i don’t know why.

  7. I don’t know if you are actually aware, you probably are, but your art has actually taken a turn from ‘bad’ art to ‘good’ art.
The stuff you put out now is fabulous.
I wonder if you did this or you do this on purpose?
Do you create good and bad art to actually throw your viewers?
The stuff you do now is far different from your other stuff.
I have linked an example below.
    It is far different.

    1. Maggie, it is a curse to be so readable and see through as an artist.
But i do admit that i do have bad days and good days too. But some prefer the bad days, some the good days, but never the in between.
Maybe you are the first to recognize my in between.
      Thank you Maggie.
