Lesende Kvinne (Reading Woman), 1886. Even Ulving (Norwegian, 1863-1952). Oil on canvas.
Ulving was not a flamboyant artist. He thrived in nature and its spiritual tranquility and beauty. He preferred the coastal areas of Åsgårdstrand, where he built an artist’s home with his wife. Even’s life was marked by silence. He disliked the decadence he had seen in the cities and put the family in front. His inspiration and joy came from his family.
