Acrosiphonia spinescens (previously Spongomorpha spinescens)
Has hook-like branches that cause clumping of filaments together. Similar species A. arcta that lacks hooks. Some authors lump both species as as A. arcta. Recent unpublished work at the Isles of Shoals suggests that they are distinct (A. Mathieson). Image posted online
