Philippe Ramette

Sculpture

170 x 150 x 150 cm

Bronze

Philippe Ramette’s chair levitation questions the laws of gravity, thus fitting in line with his latest photographic works. This painted bronze sculpture simulates the true textures of wood and rope, creating the illusion of a levitation, in a poetical way. The artist himself calls this work a “photographical sculpture”. It depicts the all-at-onceness of a movement: the moment when the chair takes off and escapes from the rope that retains it.

Contemplation irrationnelle, originally from a series achieved in 2003, is inspired by the swinging device experimented in the “Balcons” series. Using the inversion process of the image and of his own body as tools for his expression, the artist defies the laws of gravity.

To make this photo, the artist conceived an invisible prostheses, concealed under his clothes, his usual “suit and tie”. This allows him to experiment “irrational positions” during the short time required to take the picture.
