I just found some nice groups of this woodland perennial planted on woodland slopes at Jenkins Arboretum in southeast Pennsylvania. It is native to the southern Appalachians from northern Alabama & Georgia up to eastern Tennessee and Virginia, growing on moist slopes, seepages, and along streams. This makes a beautiful groundcover. A few native plant and specialty nurseries offer this species.
