Marist Football Earns Second Straight Win

Cobb Runs For Three Touchdowns In 37-27 Triumph Over Butler

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team earned its second straight win on Saturday with a 37-27 triumph over Butler at Tenney Stadium in a Pioneer Football League contest.
 
Summary
  • Marist took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. Ryan Webb returned an interception 37 yards for the game's first score, and Luke Paladino added a 27-yard field goal.
  • Butler then grabbed a 14-10 lead thanks to two touchdowns in 1:09 early in the second quarter. Nick Orlando threw a 46-yard touchdown to Stephen Dennis, and Beau Snuggs returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown.
  • Marist then answered with 10 straight points. Hunter Cobb broke through for a 48-yard touchdown run, and Paladino added a 28-yard field goal. Marist took a 20-14 lead at halftime.
  • Butler tied the game with 1:14 left in the third quarter after two field goals by Drew Bevelhimer from 52 and 39 yards out. The score was tied at 20 apiece after 45 minutes.
  • With 10:44 to play, Cobb's nine-yard touchdown run gave Marist the lead for good. On the next play from scrimmage, Kyle Fleitman recorded an interception. Marist's ensuing drive culminated in a 46-yard field goal by Paladino.
  • Orlando's three-yard touchdown run cut Butler's deficit to 30-27 with 3:47 remaining. But Cobb closed out the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run on Marist's next drive.

  • Cobb finished with 146 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
  • Justice Seales led Marist with eight tackles.
  • For Butler, Dan DelGrosso finished with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Orlando accounted for 243 total yards (183 passing, 60 rushing).
  • Butler held a 30:23-29:37 advantage in time of possession. Marist had the ball for 20:23 in the first half, and Niagara had possession for 20:46 in the second half. The Red Foxes only ran five plays in the third quarter.

  • Marist is now 4-1 all-time against Butler.
  • In the last two weeks, Cobb has run for 324 yards and five touchdowns.
  • Seales has led Marist in tackles in back-to-back weeks, and has had at least seven stops in all six of his games this season.
  • Paladino is now 15-for-15 on extra point attempts and 8-for-8 on field goal attempts this season.
