About Phalaenopsis Orchid
Phalaenopsis orchids get their name from the Greek 'phalaina' meaning moth, as their flowers are thought to resemble moth or butterfly wings! š¦ Once their flowers have blossomed, they will eventually die but the plant will live one and continue to produce new flower spikes throughout its life. Orchid flowers evolved to attract pollinators and ther unique shape helps keep insects safe while collecting and dispersing pollen! š

Just wanted to share something i've discovered and can confirm works- I've had this moth orchid for over 4 years, and it stopped blooming after 2, the flowers just dropped and never reappeared. Then i noticed the leaves becoming really really sad, like they were soft, droopy and just very wrinkly. (Obviously i had been forgetting to water it too often...) I was mourning over whether i should give up on it or try and fight for it- and im happy i choose the later. I came across a video on, instagram i think, where the lady also had a orchid who just stopped blooming and what she first cut off the steams where the blooms had fallen off from and what she then did was literally taking a vase, filling it with water before setting the orchid inside it to continue its life in a bath. And suprise suprise it bounced back and bloomed!! Of course i tried this and yes it worked wonders! My orchids leaves have returned plump and shiny, along with beautiful new flowers.

1,2 or 3? I was asked to rescue this orchid, but it appears to have 3 areas. I've never seen this before and want to provide the best results because it's not mine. Help, please! #PhalaenopsisOrchid

Small update here from my Orchid experiment. Both of them are quite happy in their new glass homes and multiple roots are growing longer. I had to prune one root because it got infested with mold, but the rest are quite fine, except for some that got a bit under the wheels during transfer to the glasses. I keep them in ~2-3cm water for about 1.5 to 2 weeks and then let them dry for 3 days or so.

I noticed my orchid has a not quite mushy split yellow and green leaf at the bottom. Just watered yesterday. I repotted her last week. Placed her in an orchid pot I set inside a deeper ceramic pot (only one I had). Thereās about 2.5 inches of space between the bottom of the orchid pot and the ceramic pot. Iām new at this. Help!

Can I save this orchid?? Hello Greg community! I was recently put in charge of taking care of my motherās old orchid plant that was seriously unhappy in her office home. What can I do to try to save her? As far as I know, it hasnāt had any blooms for months. I tried to get a look at the roots and they seem quite dried out, however there is still greenery on the leaves. I believe thereās even some new growth! Can she be still be saved and ever produce flowers? Iām super unfamiliar with this plant type so any help would be appreciated šš #OrchidLovers #help #PlantTherapy #FloweringPlants @

Winston update for those still interested He is still blooming like a champ and shows no sign of stopping. I will end the Winston Saga at this point, though. The sad little leaf he just produced - and the state of the other leaves - tell a very different story. The setback because of the neglect and the massive trim will be considerable already, so the spike will be cut and put into a vase in the hopes that he will recover - if not fast then a least fast*er*. Let's hope he will be as forgiving and robust as ever.

What other plant parents say
Amazingly beautiful flowers. Must be patient however as it blooms once a year under right conditions. Iāve had some that didnāt bloom for years. But Iāve learned that itās particular about light, water and temperature. Learn how to care for it and youāll be rewarded with flowers šø
I received this orchid as a gift in August and as soon as I got it I changed the soil (had a death plug). Fast forward to a few weeks ago and the flowers just fell off and have already formed two more stems, one of which is blooming. I never expected this plant to bloom so fast and so easy!
Orchids have a semi-scary reputation but they really arenāt that bad! I promise! Itās aaaaalll about keeping an eye on the roots (in my opinion). I like to give them a big soak every couple of weeks instead of watering a little bit more often.
But please for the love of all that is good do NOT do the ice cube method!! Orchids are tropical plants! They donāt like cold water!
Grocery store orchid that that was dying. Repotted with breathable inner pot, removed A LOT of root rot, and uses RepotMe āsoilāā¦.now itās growing like crazy - lots of new leaves and roots. Fingers crossed itāll grow a new spike and bloom in the next year. š¤š¼
Just give it 4 ice cubes once a week and it will bloom every year. Be careful not to knock it over because the stem is very delicate. If it breaks off donāt throw the plant away keep giving it ice every week and even though it will take a very long time you will see a stem grow and bloom again. The beauty of this plant makes it well worth the wait and the effort!
