Darfur historical documents - Archive 6 (and Archive 28) 7
Twelve documents in the possession (1970) of Bashār al- Ḥājj of Dār Simiyāt, al-Fāshir District. This archive was later partly incorporated into ARCHIVE 28, but the separate numbering of the documents has been retained.
From my fieldnotes, 14 June 1970, ”Bashār’s pedigree:— Bashār | al-Ḥājj | Muḥammad | ʾAbdullāhi | al-Dōma | Muḥammad ”The Simiat consist of twelve khashm al-buyūt, originally from the Berti. (See further, Ladislav Holy, Neighbours and Kinsmen. A study of the Berti people of Darfur , london, 1975, ix, 139 & 141.) Bashār could remember only the following names:— Kajanga — the khashm al-bayt of al-Dōma Safartu Wad Bertu Wafanga, Nangze. Tagarangze, Difarwertu, Jidaybo.”
