This is an interesting plant to use in sunny rock gardens. It has a fairly long bloom time, stays short, and spreads by short rhizomes. While it prefers a fair amount of sun, it tolerates morning shade and will get by fine with afternoon sun or being planted in bright, open areas. If you plant it and later decide you'd like to move it to a new location, you'll notice that it has formed a string of beads underground; these are the moniliform rhizomes that it produces as a means of reproduction.

Small Skullcap has tiny blue flowers from as early as April through July that attract an assortment of bees. It has potential to be a nice specimen for container gardening.
