Rudbeckia nitida 'Herbstonne' - Black-eyed Susan
.
Common name: Black-eyed Susan
Family: Asteraceae (Aster Family)
Distribution: North America
Hardiness: 5a
Life form: Perennial plant
Comments: 'Herbstsonne' is an upright, rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial coneflower which typically grows 4-7' tall. This is a substantial plant which features large daisy-like flowers with drooping yellow rays and elongated bright green center cones. Flowers bloom singly atop slender branching stems. Long summer bloom. Toothed, bright green leaves.
Rudbeckias are a mainstay of ornamental horticulture. Their astounding ease of growth combined with the knockout flower display made them a longstanding favorite perennial. They’re also a pollinator favorite and food source for birds, but are unbothered by rabbits, deer and most other pests.
