Description
Perennial, First-year-flowering that forms a dense evergreen mat around 10cm (4in) tall. Flowering from late spring to late autumn. This quite exceptional little plant will grow up to 50cm (20in) wide, and it covers bare spots quickly. Heat tolerant and hardy to minus 35°C (30°F), they are at their best in full sun but will also grow in part shade. The plants will tolerate a wide range of soils provided they are well drained. They also make an attractive addition to container gardens.
Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost, and cover with a fine layer of vermiculite. Propagate + 20°C. Germination takes 14-30 days. Do not exclude light as this aids germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle 8cm pots. Acclimatize and plant out after the danger of frost has passed. Prefers rich, light, well-drained soil with full sun. Does not tolerate wet soil in winter.
