Delphinium nudicaule is a herbaceous Alpine, rock garden, annual, or perennial in the Ranunculaceae family. Its native range is from southwest Oregon to California. Familiar names include Red Larkspur, Orange Larkspur, Canyon Delphinium, and Christmashorns. It grows naturally in mountain ranges, foothills, canyons, and slopes. It grows to about 1-2 feet tall and 15 inches wide. It sends up a thin stem with small leaves on it. It also has bright red-orange flowers that hummingbirds are attracted to during mid-summer. It prefers to grow in full sun with an average water need. Zones 7-10

Germination

Place seeds sandwiched between sheets of moist paper towel in a bag or food container in the fridge for 36 hours. Mix equal parts of potting soil, sand, vermiculite, and peat moss. Press seeds down into the media. Spread some long-fibered sphagnum moss on top of the potting media. Mist with a spray bottle. Cover the seed tray with clear plastic, and poke small holes in the plastic, maintaining a 64-75F. Uncover and mist as needed to keep the media moist. Place under a bright indirect light until germination.
