    Description
    Global description

Erigeron karvinskianus is a low vivacious herbaceous plant, highly branched, which does not exceed 30 cm. Its stems are slender or prostrate, stoloniferous and radicand or erect and flowering. The leaves are simple and alternate, sub sessile, elliptical. The upper leaves are large, cut into 3 to 5 lobes; the upper ones are narrow, entire or bi-serrated. The inflorescence is a capitulum with yellow, central, tabulate flowers and with peripheral ligulate flowers, with narrow ligule, pink then white. The fruit is a compressed ellipsoid achene, pale brown in color, surmounted by a pappus, formed of two rows of bristles.

    General habit

Low vivacious herbaceous plant, 20 to 30 cm high, highly branched, forming mats.

    Underground system

The plant has a taproot system.

    Stem

The stems are slender, of 2 types: prostrate, stoloniferous, rooting at the nodes, or erect flowering. They are weakly pubescent (sparse pubescence).

    Leaf

The leaves are simple and alternate, almost sessile, elliptical, 0.5 to 5 cm long and 0.1 to 2 cm wide, narrowed at the 2 ends. The lower leaves are large, cut into 3 to 5 mucronate obtuse lobes. The upper leaves are entire or bi-serrated, with sparse pubescence.

    Inflorescence

The capitulums, usually solitary, are held by long terminal peduncle, reaching up to 9 cm long, usually without bracts. The capitulum is hemispherical and measures 1.5 cm in diameter. The bracts of the involucre (50-80) are arranged more or less in 2 rows, the external slightly shorter than the internal. They are linear, ending in a point, 3 to 4 mm long, covered with sparse pubescence, with scarious margin. The receptacle (2.5 to 4 mm in diameter) is convex.

    Flower

The external flowers are ligulate (6.5 to 8.5 mm long and 0.5 to 1 mm wide), are first pink and then become white. The internal tubular flowers (3 mm long), shortly lobed, are yellow. The ovary is surmounted by a narrow style ending with bifid stigma.

    Fruit

The fruit is a compressed ellipsoid achene, 1 to 1.5 mm long, light brown in color, with surface covered with 2 ribs, covered with short erect hairs. It has a pappus formed of 2 rows of scabrous bristles, 2 to 3 mm long and some shorter.
