How to avoid the crowds at Preikestolen

How to avoid the crowds at Preikestolen

Are you ready for an adventure at Preikestolen? Most people will tell you to hike early to beat the crowds, but did you know that the best time to go is actually in the evening? While everyone else is having dinner, you can enjoy the tranquility of the mountain and watch the last rays of sun hit the walls.

If you do decide to go during the day, keep in mind that the busiest time is between 8 am and 4 pm, especially on weekends and during June, July, and August. But don’t let that discourage you – even on busy days, you can still have a great time. If the parking area is full, you might be stopped an asked to turn around and wait a few hours. This is done to ensure safety and a good experience for all hikers. You can use that time to explore the charming town of Jørpeland.

And here’s a secret tip – Preikestolen is beautiful all year round! In the fall, you’ll be treated to stunning foliage. February and March can give you a “winter wonderland” experience. In April and May, the Lysefjord is bursting with fresh spring colors.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try a sunrise hike for breathtaking views of the fjord. Just make sure you come prepared for the dark and changing weather conditions and bring your camera to capture the stunning scenery.
