  • Growth habit: grows as a rosette or a tight cluster of leaves that do no normally send out runners the way the other “hen and chicks” known as Sempervivum usually do
  • How to propagate: Jovibarbas have to be cut with a knife to propagate them; this is best done in summer so that the warm sun will dry the surface of the cut tissue for several days before the pieces of plants are reset into soil
  • Leaf type: thick succulent leaves
  • Ways to use it: grows easily in a sunny rock garden or in pots
  • Special characteristics: the leaf margins of many of the Jovibarbas have a lighter, contrasting coloring; native to the mountains of the Balkans and vicinity
The green leaves are tipped in a blood red. At other times of the year the lear are more golden or yellowish. Cold hardy to USDA Zone 4 (-20° to -30°F).
