Codonopsis clematidea - Intriguing blue bell flowers reward those that take the time to peer inside them with rings of orange, purple and yellow. This small sprawling alpine has horribly scented oregano-like leaves (deer proof??) but the pale blue flowers in midsummer are more than worth it. It comes from moist alpine meadows and prefers some water, but can cope with drought because it enters dormancy after setting seed. Sun, well-drained, low water, height 30-50 cm.
