Description Perennial herbs, 70-50cm tall. Tuber basiconic, usually 2-5 intergrowths, covering skin black. Stem erect. Leaves alternate, palmate divided, central lobes rhombus shaped, small lobes triangular. Inflorescence usually 5, glabrous; bracteoles bar-sharped, calyx 5, upper calyx helmet-shaped, 1.5-2.5cm tall, lateral calyx 1.4-1.7cm long; petals 2, glabrous, with long claw, distance 1-4mm long; stamens numerous; carpels 4-5, follicles usually 5. Flowering: July to August; fruiting: August to September.
Distribution Growing in meadows, thickets, hillsides and forest margins. Mainly distributed in the provinces of Northeast and North China. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Sichuan.
Part Used Medical part: dried leaves. Chinese name: Caowuye.
Harvest & Processing Harvested in summer when leaves frondent and flowers not open, removed impurities and dried timely. Kept in dried places.
Chemistry Mainly contains aconitine.
Pharmacology Anti-inflammatory and analgesic.
Properties & Actions Pungent, harsh, neutral, mild-toxic.Clearing heat, detoxifying and arresting pain.
Indications & Usage Used for fever and pyrexia, diarrhea and stomachache, headache and toothache.Oral administration: 1-1.2g., mainly made in pills or powder. Do not use in cases of pregnancies.
Examples 1. Treat swelling pain of throat: fringed pink, wild aconite rootye, denseleaf crazyweed herb in equal amounts. grind into fine powder, 8 fen to 1 qian at each time, decoct in water, and swallow with residue till it is warm or by boiled water, 2 times a day.
2. Treat fever and headache: swampy gentianopsis herb 5 qian, bone fossil of big mammals 4 qian, wild aconite rootye 2 qian, grind into fine powder. Take 8 fen to 1 qian two times daily, swallowing with mint soup.
