Autumn blues: parachetus
I posted about Parachetus communis earlier this year but then it had a few flowers on the young plants. I split them up and planted them in baskets outside with chlorophytum and the parachetus trailing over the sides. The parachetus grew vigorously, trailing down almost 1m but stubbornly remained green – until a few weeks ago. Buds started pushing out through the foliage and are now opening en masse, creating a really bright display. This is not a great surprise because this plant usually flowers more in autumn and spring but I was delighted to see so many blooms. But because this is not a totally hardy plant I will have to pop them in the greenhouse soon.
A glorious shade of blue. Worth protecting for next year. Or did you say you are back to the UK soon? don’t forget that Knifofia – which has a terrific flower spike at the moment!
Beautiful combination. I’ve frequently placed my spider plants in the center of a pot and placed trailing plants like the wandering jew or creeping jenny around it for stunning hanging baskets in the shade in the summers where I live.
Yes, spider plants are very useful to have!
