A home designed by Arne Jacobsen goes on sale in Copenhagen

A slice of Functionalist architecture designed by Arne Jacobsen has hit the market in Copenhagen for DKK 8.25 million ($1,178,000).

The two-bedroom terraced house sits within the Bellevue Teatret complex, opened in the 1930s. The theatre was the final part of Jacobsen’s masterplan for the Bellevue area of Klampenborg – a northern suburb of Copenhagen on the Øresund coast – which included the Bellavista residential buildings and facilities for the local sea bath.

At the time of their completion, the white cubist buildings were described as ‘the dream of the modern lifestyle.’

Bellevue Teatret – which also included a summer restaurant – was adapted in the 1950s to include residences. This 1,740 sq ft home sits inside the heritage-listed building’s converted restaurant and features a double-height living room overlooking the water.

A floating staircase leads up to a mezzanine library, a kitchen, the bedrooms and bathroom, and a first-floor terrace. Pale hardwood floors feature throughout.

To complete the look, all future owners need is a few Arne Jacobsen-designed Egg chairs.
