Jennifer Hawkins will have an extra reason to smile when she steps out on the catwalk at Myer’s spring 2016 fashion launch extravaganza in Sydney on Tuesday night.

Hawkins has just renewed her contract as the face of Myer for a further two years, taking her through to end of 2018 and marking 12 years with the department store.

“I am just still coming to terms with it — (it’s) still sinking in. It is really exciting for me,” Hawkins toldAAA Weekend from Sydney.

“It was such a big deal in my mind, speaking to my family and (husband) Jake (Wall) about it.

“To sign on again in the same role as the face of Myer, it just feels so right.

“You get really emotional because it doesn’t always happen like that. Nowadays with social media and it is so fast-paced, new this and new that, people coming in and out.”

At 32, Hawkins dispels the myth that modelling is all about youth and said age had “never been a talking point” when it came to renewing her Myer contact.

“It is not relevant when you are talking about whether you can relate to a customer or whether the customer trusts you,” she said.

“It is not just how you look on a catwalk. I have never just classed myself as a catwalk model, I more embody a brand.

“There is not one age that shops in Myer, so if you can relate to all different ages then I think that is important too.

“For any industry, there shouldn’t be restrictions by age.

“Women should just be empowered and go out there and attack life.

“I think the 30s are very interesting. You feel more empowered and strong as a woman.”

Hawkins will make her catwalk debut at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival’s Myer Lunch in the BelleVue Ballroom at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 22.

“I think it is going to be an amazing lunch event and I always love coming to WA,” she said.

“We obviously just shot our new Myer campaign there (at Hutt Lagoon).

“I am really looking forward to it. Everyone is always so lovely over in Perth.”
