Founder / Chairman
Slim built his fortune — valued at $61 billion, per Forbes in 2019 — by investing in the industrial, commercial and real-estate sectors at bargain-basement prices after the economic crash of 1982. In 1990, he acquired Telmex with SBC and France Telecom then launched América Móvil, now a leading IoT service provider offering value-added services and enhanced communication solutions in 25 countries. América Móvil has 362.4 million access lines, including 277.9 million wireless subscribers and 84.5 million fixed-revenue generating units (fixed lines, broadband access and pay TV). Up against the dominant Neflix in the region, it continues to invest in original content for its OTT streamer, Claro Video. Slim’s eponymous nonprofit supports education, health and employment for the underserved of Mexico and Latin America.
