A wooden lodge on a hillside in eastern Norway in indigenous birch woodlands was host to a group of woodworkers using locally sourced timber to create a traditional Norwegian Stavlaft. Using modern power tools and traditional hand tools to precision cut channels, locks and grooves the team prepared the walls of the cabin.
The event was orchestrated by Maurice and Claire Pyle woodsmithexperience.co.uk and the course was taught by master builder George Fuller norsklafteskole.no
Beth Tilston bethtilston.com taught scything at some early morning workshops and built a traditional hay drying rack using basic hand tools.
The second part of the course to complete the stavlaft will take place in August 2014.
