For Instruction On How To Grow Chocolate Cosmos

Germination Instructions: Sow indoors prior to last expected frost. Indoors sow into moist, well-drained seed compost. Sprinkle of soil to cover seeds. Ideal temp. 21°C. Germination takes 1-2 weeks. Transplant seedlings when big enough to handle to individual pots and grown on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. Direct sow into moist well-drained soil, keep moist until plants are established.

Growth Habit: Cosmos are multi-branching plants, with hollow tubular stems. Keep the flowers cut back after first bloom, to prompt new and continuous growth. After your Cosmos is well established, instead of just removing the blossoms, trim a third of the way down. Water and wait for a new crop.

Staking: When planted as a group, Cosmos can hold each other upright. Provide the taller varieties protection from the wind and be prepared to stake to keep the tall, spindly stems from breaking in heavy rain or wind.

Watering: Young plants need moisture to get started, yet mature plants will easily adapt to dryer conditions, and prefer less watering. When watering, focus on watering the roots, and avoid splashing the foliage.

Fertilizing: Soil that is too rich with fertilizer will yield fast plant growth, yet weaken stems and create a scarcity of flowers. Prepare the beds properly, yet hold back on too much compost and fertilizer. Add a side dressing of compost or fertilizer mid season, as needed.

Mulching: Mulching cosmos around the base of the plant in early spring will help to keep weeds in check, and to retain moisture.

Trimming & Pruning: Keep Cosmos trimmed of spent blossoms, to encourage new growth and continuous buds. During mid-summer, instead of just removing the blossoms when deadheading, trim the branches back to a third of the way down the plant; water and wait for a new crop for a late season display.

I got mine June 7th and planted 10. They started to sprout the 10th. I planted in small pot with airy type soil with little sand mixed in. I also mixed earth worm casting soil too. I let the soil become slightly dry before watering. Excited to watch them grow! (Edit) I kept them in pot an the stems are huge an plant is floppy. A little pinkish flower is sprouting. Not a choclate cosmo

I’m planting them in my garden, though was surprised the seeds weren’t packaged with any guidelines for planting depth, germination, or when to plant them. Hoping for the best!

This is the second attempt to buy these seeds. They sound great. However i am sure I threw away the first delivery. This time I just happened to notice a small clear square with no real marking amound the packing pillows. about the size of two stamps. Doesnt seem to be much of a company thay does that. I will be surprised if they sprout.

They are pretty flowers, but are not Chocolate Cosmos. Very Disappointing. I will say I planted 9 seeds and all but one came up.

It’s a cosmo but it’s obvious from the bloom color (purple) this is not the chocolate species with the red brown blooms. Don’t spend your money here.

disappointing for price - no planting instructions - look it up on internet and it says chocolate cosmos seeds are sterile and won’t reproduce flowers.
