About this item

  • A welcome color addition, Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy produces deep maroon red flowers with a dark chocolate center. Flowers, 3 - 4" across and blooms all summer even in poor soils.
  • Cherry Brandy is a 24 inch tall Annual growing in USDA zones 4 - 8.
  • It is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Best in moist, organically rich soils. Tolerates heat, drought and a wide range of soils except poorly-drained wet ones.
  • The plants transplant well and should be spaced 12 - 18 inches apart. They form a clump that will reach 12 inches in width or more. Deadheading prolongs the bloom season, but they will re-seed themselves readily if you leave a few blooms to go to seed. Watch for seedlings in subsequent years.
  • Seeding Rate: 3 - 4 seeds per plant. Sow Rudbeckia seeds outdoors in the spring after the danger of frost has passed. Prepare soil by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches and removing any weeds. Sow the seeds into the loosened soil and rake in. Walk over the area to gently press the flower seeds into the soil. Keep the flower seeds moist until germination.

Easy to grow! Big impact!
I threw a few handfuls of these down last fall (2021) after we had some bushes removed. I tilled up the ground prior to throwing the seeds down in fall, and these black eyed Susan came up fierce! Not going to lie though it looked pretty rough for the first few weeks of summer - like a bunch of huge weeds! Now here we are July 6th and they are popping out and look amazing! I’m in Wisconsin, so they may come up sooner if you live south. Super easy!

Started these in about March indoors then moved them out in June. I would say 3/4 of them took and buy Aug. they were flowering. Didn't grow as thick as I would like but I would assume they will fill in if they make it to next spring. Birds love them, bees love them. For what it cost to start them (seed, cup, soil) I spent less then what it cost to buy one from the store. Yeah I really like them

I purchased this as a quick buy because I didn’t want to pay for shipping from my regular supplier. I have 6 trays of different varieties of rudbeckia. 40 cells per tray and zero germination on these seeds as well as the gloriousa also purchased from this supplier. The rest germinated just fine as usual. Save your time and money and skip these.

I would give it 5 stars since I got a lot of compliments on them. Problem is that the right one is wider than the left one and my foot is not secure in it and it lets my toes hang over the front because they are not supported. My feet are small (size 6) and are both the same width so it is a defect in the shoe. Hard to wear them because I have to keep sliding my foot back in place. Loved the look though...

I'm a beginning gardener and I try to involve my toddler in the garden as much as possible, so when I bought these seeds last spring I told her they were hers to grow this year. I prepped a bed and let her scatter the seeds (we planted pretty thick - the whole packet for one medium-sized bed). We watered together all spring and did minimal weeding since we figured the flowers would crowd most invaders out. It was the most low-maintenance flower bed ever. And we were rewarded in mid-late summer with the most show stopping blooms! The bed looks amazing and has gotten a lot of compliments. The impact of so many bright yellow flowers just overflowing this bed is really dramatic. They're the only thing in the bed besides an old rose bush and a random giant sunflower and we're hoping they re-seed for next year. We never did any thinning which may have made our plants leggy but we were going for easy.
