Echinacea Purpurea – Doubledecker also known as the Coneflower, is a unique double coneflower, it is noted for its two-tiered flowers, that have long, reflexed, ray petals that are a deep rose-pink color, that surround a dark brown central cone. The cone is then topped with a set of shorter petals that shoot upward. This is definitely one cool looking flower! While single flowers are produced in the first year sometimes, a high percentage of two-tiered flowers appear from the second year forward, and they have either a single or double set of petals. They have been cultivated as a hardy perennial since the 1700s and were used by the early Native Americans to cure wounds and infections. These flowers have a blooming season ranging from mid – late Summer, thrives in full sun in dry to medium moisture soils that are well draining, and will grow up to 40 inches tall. A great feature of these plants is that they are drought, heat, and humidity tolerant. They will attract numerous pollinators to your garden such as Hummingbirds, Butterflies, Bees, and Birds while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. It is recommended to remove the spent flowers and cut back the stems to help encourage further blooms. These showy flowers make great cut flowers, do well in dried floral arrangements, and also do well in beds and borders in the garden. Another great feature of these plants is that they are low maintenance, making these the perfect flowers for the busy gardener! I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
