Bowles' golden grass makes elegant upright clumps of light lemon and lime striped foliage, which arches slightly under its own weight as the season progresses. It needs cool moist, lightly shaded conditions with plenty of humus to grow well, and is a good way of brightening the shade beneath trees in light woodland, or among perennial flowers in a border where the soil is suitably moist. It looks good teamed with Primula florindae. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
