What are plugs? Plugs are plants grown in 72-cell trays; each soil plug is 1.6” wide x 3.2” deep. They are a great option for planting large gardens. We plant all of our own projects with plugs.

Palm Sedge is an ornamental sedge whose stems and leaves look like palm trees. It can handle shady and wet areas. When Palm Sedge is planted closely it creates a dense canopy.

Design Tips

Palm sedge can be planted individually or in small groups to add nice vertical mounds to sunny or shady gardens, or it can be planted in large groups that form a dense cover. Palm Sedge (Carex muskingumensis) is a good choice for sunny or shady rain gardens. It does tend to spread a lot by seed over time.

Great native plant choice for the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes grant program!
