  • Minted at Rome between 196 to 211 CE during the reign of her husband Emperor Septimius Severus.
  • An attractive mature obverse portrait style & unusual presentation of Pudicitia with head facing. The figure of Pudicitia is thought to be Julia Domna.
  • Approx. 18mm, 3.61g, RIC 576. 
  • Certified by NGC to Ch AU, lustrous surfaces.
  • Pedigree: Ex. Empire Coins with unique style tag (does not say Empire Coins).
  • Obverse: JULIA AVGVSTA, draped bust right with hair braided in waves and tucked into a large chignon.
  • Reverse: PVDICITIA, Pudicitia veiled seated left with head front holding scepter in left hand & right hand on breast.
  • Pudicitia is the Roman goddess of modesty and chastity. She was at first worshipped in a chapel in Rome exclusively by the patrician matrons. Afterwards this cult died out with the decay of morals. In imperial times altars were erected to Pudicitia in honour of the empresses.
