Put these in damp paper towel in a Jiffy bag in the fridge for a couple of weeks, but forgot them, so they were well sprouted. Didn’t expect much after that but they grew up strong and flowered beautifully. Had enough bonny, bushy plants to give away. They have been planted three times now, having moved with me from garden to garden as I was renting, without complaint or loss of vigour, but are now in their forever border and if not taking over, certainly holding their own and self seeding merrily. If you don’t already grow them, give them a go, the bees favour them over all others in a garden packed with plants for pollinators. I have seen three bees at a time on a single pincushion flower. They also carry on flowering if you deadhead.

Germination Instructions
Sow directly or under glass. Easiest to sow directly in autumn as seeds require a period of cold to germinate. Surface sow, barely cover with soil or grit. Keep moist. Germination takes 14-21 days but can be erratic and take many months. Thin to final spacing of 50cm. If planting under glass a period of cold stratification may be required prior to sowing, 4°C for 4 weeks. When germinated move to 8cm pots and grow on at 10°C. Acclimatise and plant out.
Growing Instructions
Prefers fertile, ideally alkaline soil in full sun. Good drainage is essential. May require twiggy support. Fertilise in spring if desired.
Cultivation Instructions
Mulch in autumn with well rotted manure. No need to deadhead unless desired. Seeds may be collected for future sowing. Cut out woody growth.
