    Germination Instructions

Sow in a cold frame in spring or autumn. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Do not cover seed, simply press into the soil. Place in a cold frame. Keep moist. Ideal temp. 10°C. Germination takes 2 weeks-3 months depending on time of sowing. Germination can be erratic. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on in the cold frame for their 1st winter. Acclimatise and plant out in spring when danger of frost has passed.

    Growing Instructions

Prefers a cool, moist, humus-rich soil in partial or full shade, dappled shade is ideal. Will tolerate most soils. Dislikes winter wet. Ideal for underplanting trees. Too much fertilizer can kill these plants. Do not plant under conifers.

    Cultivation Instructions

Requires little attention. Cut old flower stems with scissors to keep the plant tidy. Propagate by seed or by division in spring.
