Fairly easy to start. 50% germination from two packets. Apparently takes 4 years to full maturity before it flowers. Grew two outdoors in E.Scotland for almost 3 years, but both were killed by several continuous days of sub zero temperature in winter 21-22.Best grown in (big!) pots and sheltered in greenhouse in winter.

Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear you have had fairly good germination so far. We don't believe a cold treatment has been given yet and therefore would recommend pricking out the seedlings and then either use the natural winter cold or a fridge to offer a cold treatment, breaking the dormancy of the remaining seeds germination should then occur when given warmth again. The RHS list this plant with a H3 hardiness rating, hardy to -5C. Protection would need to be given if temperatures are below this. Plants should also be mature in 1.5-2 years, being perennial should flower in their second year of growth. We have contacted you directly to discuss further. All the best, The Chiltern Seeds Team

Germination Instructions
Sow indoors. Surface sow 2cm apart onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover with a fine layer of soil mixed with coarse grit. Keep the soil moist not wet. Ideal temp. 5-14°C. If germination does not occur after 3-4 weeks cold stratify for 2-4 weeks at 4°C, a fridge is ideal. Prick out seedlings carefully as soon as they has 2 true leaves and move to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. If you have seeds which have not emerged by autumn you can leave the seed tray outside where winter cold should offer the natural conditions required for germination the following spring.
Growing Instructions
Prefers any moderately fertile soil which is moist but well-drained. It will not tolerate a waterlogged soil. Full or part sun.
Cultivation Instructions
Remove faded flower stems and old leaves to extend the flowering window and to encourage new leaf growth. Propagate by division in spring.
