KIRTLAND, Ohio -- The Holden Arboretum will reopen to the public on Thursday, May 28, with social distancing guidelines in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

The opening date comes just in time for the grounds’ rhododendron bloom at the Eliot and Linda Paine Rhododendron Discovery Garden and Helen S. Layer Rhododendron Garden, according to a press release.

Since May 12, the Holden Arboretum had been open to members only. Now, it has expanded its offerings to the general public.

Currently, tickets will not be sold onsite at the Holden Arboretum; visitors must purchase tickets with timed appointments for arrival to help with congestion at the entry gate, according to the organization’s website. All ticket holders may explore the space until the grounds close; the Holden Arboretum is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children who are three to 12 years old. Children who are three and under get in free. Tickets can be purchased through the Holden Arboretum’s website, holdenarb.org.

“We are excited to reopen our gardens and walking and hiking trails,” said Jill Koski, the president and CEO of Holden Forests and Gardens, in a press release. “We are all in need of rejuvenation and a respite, and there’s no better and safer way to do this than by surrounding yourself with the beauty and wonder of nature.”

Holden Arboretum visitors are encouraged to wear a face mask while on the grounds, and are required to maintain six-foot social distancing and limit groups to 10 people or less, the press release states.

The press release also states that all buildings will remain closed, as will the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Emergent Tower -- though, some restrooms will be available at the Visitors Center.
