Getting back into the swing of hosting? Elizabeth Banks has some tips for you—yes, The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect star herself.

In this exclusive Q&A with EatingWell, Banks reveals her hosting expertise as the co-owner of Archer Roose, the canned wine brand that specializes in sustainable sourcing and packaging. Alongside her favorite food and wine pairings and grazing snacks for guests, we got the details on her morning and nighttime routines. Read the full scoop below.

EatingWell: What’s your No. 1 hosting tip for any gathering?

Banks: To be a successful host, everything is about setting the mood. I love incorporating warm lighting, festive decorations and a cozy atmosphere. Offering a signature cocktail like [Archer Roose’s] Bubbly Rosé spritzer with some berries can elevate the experience. Archer Roose adds a touch of elegance to any setting, and their canned convenience is a host's best friend.

EatingWell: What’s your favorite snack to leave out for guests to graze before the main meal?

Banks: I like to keep things simple and satisfying. A go-to appetizer that never fails to impress is a cheese and charcuterie board. It's all about pairing a selection of artisanal cheeses, some cured meats, and a variety of fresh fruits and nuts. It's a classic and elegant choice that is a true crowd pleaser.

EatingWell: What’s your morning routine like?

Banks: I love to get outside first thing and take my dog for a walk. Honestly, I love my alone time in the morning! Every day, I enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea—it's become a daily ritual for me. I find it both soothing and invigorating. I prefer teas without strings or extra packaging, like the ones you find in the U.K. As someone who is always on-the-go, I appreciate the alone time a quiet morning brings.

EatingWell: Nighttime routine?

Banks: For my nighttime routine, I hate to admit it but I tend to take too-long of showers, which is bad on every level, but I love a long, hot shower. Afterwards, I lather up with No7’s Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Cream—it is heaven! Before bed, I also make sure I'm well-hydrated. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to get into bed early, as I believe prioritizing lots of sleep is key to any successful routine.

EatingWell: What are your favorite food and wine pairings, whether it's dinners, desserts, cheese or snacks that come to mind?

Banks: One pairing I love is a crisp white wine, like Archer Roose’s Sauvignon Blanc, with a simple popcorn and truffle salt combination. The wine's bright acidity and the earthy, umami flavor of truffle salt make for a unique and enjoyable combination. I also love Archer Roose’s Bubbly (which is crisp and dry with pear and apple notes) with mild cheeses like Brie and Camembert, and complementing it with prosciutto, which has a delicate saltiness and a buttery texture.

EatingWell: What’s a misconception or a fact about canned wine you wish more people knew the truth of?

Banks: One common misconception about canned wine is that the quality is inferior compared to bottled wine. At Archer Roose, we recognized the potential in cans as we believe the format is more sustainable and creates a new tradition of wine as it should be: with mindfulness to the planet and the modern lifestyle. Our single-serve cans allow people to enjoy delicious wine one glass at a time, eliminating the unfinished bottle at the end of the night.

EatingWell: What does “eating well” mean to you?

Banks: I believe in the power of moderation, listening to my body's signals and choosing foods that fuel me for my long days on set. For me, eating well also extends beyond the physical aspect and embraces the emotional and social aspects of food. It means enjoying meals with loved ones and a good can of wine, savoring delicious flavors and being present in the moment. It's about fostering a positive relationship with food without guilt or restrictions.

Editor’s Notes: Alongside co-owning Archer Roose, Banks is an ambassador for beauty and skincare brand No7. This interview was modified for clarity and length.
