Offset printing, also called offset lithography, is a method of mass-production printing in which the images on metal plates are transferred (offset) to rubber blankets or rollers and then to the print media. The print media, usually paper, does not come into direct contact with the metal plates. This is the most common way to make prints and posters.

Poster size refers to the overall size of the artwork which can include margins, writing, etc. Image size is only the actual artwork. Thus an image that is 12 x 12 in. with a 3 inch white border on all sides would have a poster size of 18 x 18 in.

Full bleed images refers to artwork with no margins. That is, the artwork extends out to all edges and therefore the poster size and image size are the same.

Rare prints and posters frequently refer to art prints that are no longer available by virtue of being discontinued by their publisher. Most are open edition prints which are simply hard to find and as such are sold at a premium.

The vast majority of prints and posters are published by art publishing houses. The publisher usually has the right to sell as many as they can and the prints are not numbered. Their value may increase once the publisher discontinues them since there would then be a limited supply.
