You can sow the flower seeds directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and the soil temperature has warmed to at least 65 degrees - and/or the nighttime air temps stay above 50.
Cleome, also known as the Spider Flower, gives you armloads of blooms over a very long season on plants that don’t exceed 4 feet tall. The blooms are also great for cutting, making long-lasting colors to bring indoors. Even when gone to seed they are so interesting.

It will take blistering heat, so is great for any summer hot spell, which many seem to be having these days. Here in Northern Georgia especially. They are also semi-drought tolerant, which is always nice to have on hand. It will continue to bloom in profusion until the temperatures become very chilly.

It is also, sometimes, considered to be the ‘fourth sister’ in the Three Sisters Native American growing technique, of growing corn, squash, and beans intermingled with one another. This is the basis of Permaculture where plants assist and benefit one another.
