Arsenal have had an excellent start to the Premier League season and sit just a single point behind leaders Liverpool after 16 games.

Behind the Gunners and breathing down their necks are Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, with the busy festive period likely to shake things up as we head into 2024. Manchester United are nine points behind Arsenal in sixth meanwhile, with Newcastle United one point further back in seventh.

Mikel Arteta's side now have some huge matches coming up that will truly test them, taking on eighth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates this Sunday before heading to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp's in-form Liverpool on December 23.

Arsenal failed to win in both of those fixtures last season, losing 3-0 at home to Albion at the end of the season and drawing 1-1 with the Reds at Anfield. They will have to improve this time around to keep up the pace at the top of the table, with the match with Liverpool being seen as a game that the Gunners simply must not lose if they are to contend for the title.

Those games are then followed up by a pair of London derbies against West Ham and Fulham. The Hammers will make the short trip from east to north London first on December 28, with the Gunners then travelling to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on New Year's Eve.

Neither will be easy games, though Arteta's side will be expected to collect maximum points here. Last season the same fixtures returned two victories with three goals scored in each game, the same again would be a welcome Christmas treat.
