Portable, quick to knit, and universally wearable, new knitters have recently been discovering socks in droves, while Interweave Knits magazine has been providing original, beautiful patterns for a decade. Featuring 25 beautiful and timeless sock patterns for every occasion in a range of techniques, traditions, and designs, many of these patterns have become unavailable as original issues of Interweave Knits went out of print, but are available once again in this inspired collection. Highlights include a tutorial for knitting socks on two circular needles, instructions for making resoleable socks, and six completely new designs for those avid knitters who may have every issue of Interweave Knits magazine.
I've made two pairs of socks from this book. The Cable Rib Socks are insanely comfortable and I wear them weekly, and the Embossed Leaves Socks are too pretty to wear. I put them on and wave my feet about for a bit to admire them, then back into the drawer with them. Maybe I'll have them framed.
I'm an expert knitter who's more into process than product and the third pattern in this book has already introduced me to a new concept. Well-conceived book with interesting patterns - well worth the price to add to your library.
Got this as a holiday gift from my brother in law. I'm still mulling over which sock to make. I bought the yarn, but I'm still indecisive. The planning is at least half the fun!
My mother won this book as a prize and when she showed it to me I almost took it from her, but I was a decent child and purchased my own. This book is fabulous and I love making the socks.
One word, BEAUTIFUL! I pretty much bought it for one pattern, because it was almost the same price as buying a back issue of Interweave plus the cost of shipping. It's has 19 old designs and 6 new ones. So if you are a subscriber to Interweave, it might not be worth it to you. Or it might if you want all the patterns in one place. I like that it is coil bound so that the pages lay flat, and it's easy to photocopy if you like to make notes on patterns as you knit like I do. There are a lot of great patterns in here that I can't wait to try out though.
Nothing particularly earth-shattering in terms of techniques or tips, but does contain a number of interesting patterns. Two interesting concepts for me personally were a double thickness sole as well as a replaceable sole.
I have a sock yarn obsession so I am always looking for fun patterns. There are some great options in this book for some very pretty socks. I can’t wait to try them!
This book is spiral bound so it stays flat when you open. Very useful for following knitting patterns, but doesn't look or fit well in my library so I'm not sure if I like buying books with spiral. Borrowing is fine so I'll just keep renewing my library book until I decide how I feel. Great beginner explications if you've never attempted a sock pattern or never knitted, there is everything you need to get started. Although I would recommend Stitch 'n Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook as a true beginner knitting teaching guide because there is lots of simple patterns and ideas and sock yarn is very thin and time consuming. My favorite pattern is the Up-Down Spiral sox on page 113, but that is for an intermediate level knitter. At the moment, my favorite sock knitting book is Op-Art Socks: Creative Effects in Sock Knitting and my tried and true is Around the World in Knitted Socks: 26 Inspired Designs as my family members have received many socks from that book through the years. 128 pages and borrowed 3 stars
a great sock pattern book I am always happy when I see at least a pattern or two in a book that i want to do. This book had more patterns that i have on my list of future projects than not. now i just need to get the yarn for all those socks
The socks in the book are pretty much your basic socks, so if you have other sock books and fall in love with a pattern from here, i'd check it out from the library. Good instructions.
A beautiful collection of socks featured in many years of back issues of Interweave Knits. A great go-to book when you have a perfect yarn and just need a pattern to match - you'll undoubtedly find something here.
Really fantastic sock pattern book. The patterns are gorgeous and the techniques used are well-illustrated and explained clearly. I've added about seven socks from this book to my 'must knit' list and I can't wait to get started!
Collection of patterns from Interweave Knits makes it easy to find socks I want to knit. Now I don't have to go searching through my magazine collection. Love the patterns, the designers.
