Geranium phaeum 'Joseph Green'

Height x Spread: 40 x 45cm

And now for something a little different, a beautiful double form of Geranium phaeum with an unusual twist.  Held in sprays on slender stems the individual flowerheads comprise layers of deep purplish blue petals encircling a bold centre full of modified stamens, each tipped a rich lime green.  It is a striking and bold combination that really draws the eye.

'Joseph Green' was found by Lynne Edwards as a seedling in her garden in 2013 and named after her father, a keen horticulturist.  In propagation since 2017, it has proved a firm favourite with lovers of woodland flowers for its elegance and unusual good looks.  Thriving in dappled shade in any reasonable soil with some drainage and richness, it can cope with more shade too.  Combine it with Veronica, Amsonia, Lampracapnos  and Tiarella for a partially shaded border with texture and interest over a long period.
