The fronds of this unruly, reddish-brown Alga are certainly contorted and would live up the name D. contorta. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the example on Wikipedia! The tiny discoid holdfasts (pic 5) and the soft, gelatinous, twisted, tubular fronds all still point towards D.contorta.

An earlier example of Demontia contorta growing just along the coast. Note dejayM’s comment ‘I can say that I have not seen the precise likes.’. Until now perhaps?
