Situated on the slopes of mount Asprano, the borgo of Roccasecca (province of Frosinone) dominates the Liri and Melfa valleys. The entryway to the nearby Comino valley, this ancient borgo has been a strategic location for commerce and military operations since its foundation.
The residential centre comprises four sections: Centro, Castello, Caprile and Roccasecca Scalo, the most recent which was completely rebuilt after devastating bomb damage in WWII.
Much of its fame is due to the nearby ghost town of the same name, an unmissable destination for lovers of archaeology and medieval history. The oldest part contains some of the most evocative areas in the area: the ruins of the 10th century Castle of the Counts Aquinas, located on high over the valleys below, and the so-called house of St. Thomas, in the medieval neighbourhood of Castello, where a monumental pointed arch bears the inscription THO(mas). Religious buildings include: the Church of San Tommaso, which conserves 15th century frescoes and the three-naved Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
The historical centre of the town features the Church and Convent of San Francesco, the Church of Santa Margherita and Palazzo Boncompagni, now the town hall, built in the first half of the 18th century by the Boncompagni-Ludovisi, the Dukedom of Sora, Arce, Arpino and Aquino.
