JFrog Connect Assimilates Deal with Borg Collective

DELTA QUADRANT - The Borg are great connoisseurs of technology and devices. It’s a passion this cyborg society takes to heart, as they themselves become one with the devices of their culture. In other words, the Borg are a collective of living networked devices. The Borg Collective is among the largest ventures in their industry, with Borg distributed far across the galaxy. But rapid growth and technological assimilation is not without its own risks! One never knows if newly assimilated technology might introduce a bug or exploitable vulnerability! For example, a troublesome sense of individualism. Quick software updates are vital. This ensures the Collective can share the latest acquired binaries with every member, while also providing a mechanism to push out software vulnerability fixes.

Enter JFrog Connect. Connect enables quick software updates, at scale, across fleets of Linux-based devices. This includes devices for the Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing, and machine learning. Perfect for the Borg! Updates occur across a network connection, which is known as an over-the-air (OTA) update. The Collective’s network includes security measures to combat outside interference. Thankfully JFrog Connect is designed to support complex network environments where there may be no public IP, a double NAT, a firewall, or unstable wifi. Connect OTA updates proved to be a real time-saver! By comparison, asking each Borg to return to the giant Borg Cube for manual updates was quite time consuming, resource intensive, and unsustainable as the Collective’s numbers grew. Connect also monitors device health. The binaries that Connect pushes out are stored on JFrog Artifactory, an artifact repository. Artifactory is scanned by JFrog Xray, which alerts users of known vulnerabilities, provides suggestions for fixes, and offers context.

JFrog’s Connect deal with the Borg is the first of its kind. “The technology was futile to resist,” said Borg representative Third of Four. “It will prove most useful as we scale our operations deep into Federation space.”

Way to go Borg! May you live long and prosper in your future endeavors!
