Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0: The beginning of the internet, understand the differences.

Web 1.0 vs Web 2.0: The beginning of the internet, understand the differences.

💻Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 represent the two distinct phases of the World Wide Web's evolution. The Web 1.0 era, also known as the "static web," began in the late 1990s and lasted until around 2004. During this period, websites were primarily used as a way to share information and were not interactive. The majority of sites were built using HTML and were primarily text-based, with limited multimedia content. Navigation was typically done through static links and menus, and the user experience was limited.

Web 2.0, also known as the "dynamic web," began around 2004 and is still ongoing. This era is characterized by the increased use of interactive and user-generated content, as well as the proliferation of social media and other web-based applications. Websites became more interactive, allowing users to comment, share, and edit content. Navigation is now done through searches and tags, making it more flexible and personalized. The user experience is also much more immersive and engaging. 🌟🤩📱

Web 2.0 also brought about the rise of Web-based applications and services like blogs, wikis, and social networks. Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn became popular, enabling users to create, share and consume content in new ways. Web 2.0 also helped to democratize the web, making it easier for individuals and small organizations to create and share content online. 🌎💬📝

The transition from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 has had a significant impact on the way we use and interact with the internet. The Internet has become a much more interactive and collaborative space, and the Web 2.0 era has paved the way for the further evolution of the web. 🚀📈💻

Some of the main differences between the two eras include:

🌟 Web 1.0 is static and Web 2.0 is dynamic

🌟 Web 1.0 is based on HTML documents and Web 2.0 is based on user-generated content

🌟 Web 1.0 has navigation done through static links and menus and Web 2.0 has navigation done through searches and tags

🌟 Web 1.0 does not allow interaction with the user and Web 2.0 allows interaction with the user

Greatly summarized Vinicius As you said "The Web 2.0 era has paved the way for the further evolution of the web" As you note on your chart, this evolution is Web3 which allows its users to not only interact with the web but to own a part of it through digital assets. We should all keep in mind that the big Web 2.0 players have captured most of the value and we are currently playing inside their "walled gardens" where we as users provide them with content and value yet we gain very little from it (likes, hearts, comments ..) They are also making great amount of money from our data. There is an estimate that the average user earns Facebook about 7 us dollars per month, from their personal data. Hopefully Web3 will bring an end to the situation where users are not sharing the upside of the value they bring to these companies.
