Doug is a mixed-media artist working in bookwork, collage, installation, sculpture and photography. He has a BFA from York University in Toronto, ON and an MFA in photography from the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY. He regularly lectures on his artwork and exhibits both nationally and internationally. In 2011 a monograph entitled, Doug Beube: Breaking the Codex was published, Etc Etc The Iconoclastic Press, Brooklyn, NY.  David Revere McFadden, former chief curator of the Museum of Art and Design in New York City, wrote the introduction along with several well know writers and critics, wrote in depth essays about his art practice. In 2016 he received a Pollock-Krasner fellowship. In the fall of 2019, he was one of four artists invited to exhibit his bookwork and collage works in China. In 2020 he was invited to exhibit his social justice installation entitled, Wash, as part of the Performance Arcade in Wellington, NZ. Doug works as a fulltime artist in Brooklyn, NY.
