A seminal figure in twentieth-century photography, Irving Penn profoundly influenced the world of fashion as well as the portraiture and still life genres from the 1950s on. Onwards his close personal relationship to the MEP and the generosity of the Irving Penn Foundation made it possible for the museum to acquire a vast ensemble of his works, one of the largest ensembles by a single artist in its collection.
