Corydalis

According to an Ancient Greek dictionary, korys or korythos means head covering, helmet or storm cap. From this the Latin korydalis (crowned lark) may be derived. The spurs of the flowers show resemblance to the crest of a lark. The genus Corydalis includes hundreds of beautiful to very beautiful species and their resulting cultivars. All species, which are particularly suitable for planting under shrubs and trees, like a (semi-)shady spot. Roughly speaking, we can divide Corydalis into two groups: 1: species that occur in wooded (B) areas (often originating from Siberia and the Far East). These like humus-rich soil that must not dry out. 2: species (S) that grow on open plains (i.e. without any protection). These species require a dry habitat in the summer months.
