    Fawcett revealed in 2006 that she was undergoing treatment for anal cancer. Despite trips to Germany to receive treatment not available in the U.S., Fawcett returned to the U.S. for good in 2008. O'Neal told People magazine on May 7, 2009, that "treatment has pretty much ended." Friends and loved ones gathered around her on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, and a priest was summoned to her bedside at a Santa Monica hospital in California. She died the following day.
