Shieldleaf rodgersia is an imposing foliage plant that is unfortunately rare in gardens. The enormous leaves provide an excellent backdrop to smaller perennials in the woodland garden. Spreads slowly by rhizome. Easy to grow in semi-shade in cool, moist, humus-rich soil. Prefers to grow under deep-rooted trees, but will also grow happily along streamsides in semi-shade. Do not attempt to grow in soil with uneven moisture or flooding.
